Measuring instructions for Gumax® glass sliding doors

With Gumax® glass sliding doors, you can enjoy even more comfort under your veranda or garden room. Accurate measurement is essential when ordering the correct size sliding doors. You can order Gumax® glass sliding doors in several situations: when ordering them together with a Gumax® veranda, when you already have a Gumax® veranda, or when you have a different type of veranda or garden room. Choose the situation that applies to you and follow the corresponding step-by-step measuring instructions. This ensures that the sliding doors fit perfectly.

New Gumax® veranda

Are you planning to order a Gumax® veranda with glass sliding doors? Then fill in the measuring tool or follow the instructions below to determine which rail system you need for your glass sliding doors.

Determining the width

  • Determine the dimensions of your veranda and where you would like to place glass sliding doors.
    • The width of glass sliding doors at the front is measured from the inside of one support structure to the inside of the other.
    • The width of glass sliding doors on the side is measured from the wall to the inside of the support structure.
  • Refer to Table 1 to see which rail system you need.

Determining the height

Wall profile height

When ordering glass sliding doors, first choose your desired clearance height, for example 2100 mm. Each clearance height corresponds to a specific wall profile height – the height at which the veranda is mounted to the facade. Use the measuring tool to calculate the correct wall profile height so your sliding door fits perfectly.

Clearance height

Do you have limited space on your facade and are therefore restricted to a specific wall profile height? Then use the measuring tool to calculate the corresponding clearance height. This ensures that your Gumax® veranda and your glass sliding doors connect seamlessly.

Installed Gumax® veranda

Has your Gumax® veranda already been installed and would you like to expand it with glass sliding doors?

Then follow the instructions below and use the measuring aid to determine which rail system you need for your glass sliding doors.

Measuring the Width

  • Measure the width of the opening where you would like to install the sliding door.
    • At the front of the veranda, measure from the inside of one support structure to the inside of the other (see fig. 1).
    • On the side of the veranda, measure from the wall to the inside of the support structure (see fig. 2).
  • Choose a rail system from Table 2 that is wider than your measured width. You can easily shorten this system yourself.

Measuring the Height

Would you like to install a sliding door on the side (A) or at the front (B) of your Gumax® veranda? Follow the step-by-step instructions below that match your situation.

A: Sliding door on the side of your veranda

  • Measure the clearance height at the front of the veranda, on the side where you want to place the sliding door. Measure from the top of the foundation or paving to the flat underside of the gutter (see fig. 3 and 4).
    • Note: to install glass sliding doors on the side of your veranda, you will need an 8° glass wedge.
  • Check Table 3 to see between which values your measured clearance height falls. Select those values when configuring your glass sliding doors on the website.
  • Do you want the bottom rail to be recessed into the terrace? Add 18 mm to the clearance height – that’s the height of the bottom rail.
  • Do you have a terrace with a slope? Ensure that the foundation is level and can support at least 390 kg per linear metre. If you plan to raise or lower the terrace to correct the slope, make sure the clearance height you order is adjusted accordingly. This way, the sliding door will not be too large or too small during installation.

B: Sliding door at the front of your veranda

  • Measure the clearance height at the front of the veranda. Take measurements at three points (left–centre–right), from the top of the foundation or paving to the flat underside of the gutter (see fig. 5 and 6).
  • Take the lowest measured clearance height and check in Table 3 which range it falls into. Select these values when configuring your glass sliding doors on the website.
  • Would you like the bottom rail to be recessed into the terrace? Then add 18 mm to the clearance height – this is the height of the bottom rail.
  • Do you have a terrace with a slope? Ensure that the foundation is level and can support at least 390 kg per linear metre. If you plan to raise or lower your terrace to correct this, make sure to take the clearance height into account when placing your order, so that the sliding door will not be too large or too small during installation.

External veranda

Do you have a veranda or garden house other than a Gumax® veranda? You can still install glass sliding doors. Measure as follows:

Measuring the width

  • Measure the width of the opening where the sliding door will be installed.
  • Choose a rail system that is wider than your measured size. You can shorten this rail system yourself.

Measuring the height

  • Measure at three points (left, centre, right) and take the lowest value.
  • Add 18 mm if you want to recess the bottom rail into the terrace.
  • Use this height when selecting your glass sliding doors on the website.

Determining the Height

  1. Measure the height of the opening in your veranda where the sliding doors will be placed. Measure this height at three points (left–centre–right).
  2. Take the lowest measured height and check Table 5 to find the corresponding range. Select this range under “passage height” on the website.
  3. (Optional) Do you want the bottom rail to be recessed into the terrace? Then add 18 mm (the height of the bottom rail) to your measured height.

Overlap calculation

Easily calculate the overlap of your Gumax® glass sliding doors:

  1. Determine how much the rail system needs to be shortened to fit your opening.
  2. Divide this length by the number of sliding doors minus one.

Example: For a width of 4840 mm, you need a 5-rail system (see table 1). The system length is 4900 mm, so you shorten it by 60 mm. A 5-rail system includes 5 sliding doors, so the overlap is calculated as 60 ÷ (5 − 1) = 15 mm overlap per door.

Want minimal overlap? If your veranda is 3 m deep, choose a 3-rail system with an additional post mounted against the wall. If your veranda is 4 m deep, choose a 4-rail system, also with an additional post.

Foundation

The sliding doors must be installed on a level foundation with a minimum load-bearing capacity of 390 kg per linear metre. This can be a foundation tube or another type of solid base, such as a concrete surface.
