Carport benefits

A carport has many advantages. This will protect your car from all weather conditions, keeping your car's paintwork beautiful for longer. Also, with a carport, you always get in and out of your car dry. So you never have to go through the rain to get to your car! Besides being extremely functional, a carport also adds a beautiful look to your home. You can also choose to complete the carport with glass sliding doors and LED lighting. Glass sliding doors keep the heat under the carport. So you will be less likely to need to de-ice your car. LED lighting means you never have to get in or out of your car in the dark.

Listed below are the many advantages of a carport:

  • Your car is sheltered
  • Also suitable for other vehicles
  • Get in and out of the vehicle dry
  • Configurable as desired
  • Can also be used as a veranda, e.g. for parties
  • In winter weather, the vehicle is free of snow and ice
  • Adds a luxurious look to your home
  • The vehicle's paintwork is protected from weather and other influences, such as resin from trees, falling leaves, or bird droppings
  • If your car has leather upholstery, it is also protected from drying out by the sun

Advantages of aluminium carports

When choosing a carport, you can opt for an aluminium or wooden carport. A wooden carport has a rustic feel, but it also requires annual maintenance. Wood requires a stain or paint job almost annually to keep the carport well maintained. An aluminium carport, on the other hand, requires very little maintenance. An occasional polish is enough to make the carport last a lifetime. Moreover, an aluminium carport has a very modern and sleek look, perfect for different types of homes.

Carport in cold weather

Besides the general advantages that a carport offers you, an aluminium carport offers you even more. For instance:

  • An aluminium carport has a luxurious, modern look
  • An aluminium carport has a very long lifespan compared to a wooden carport
  • An aluminium carport requires little to no maintenance compared to a wooden carport

What can I choose from?

There are different choices for your carport. An aluminium carport is available in different sizes, and in two different styles. Furthermore, you can choose between matt anthracite (RAL 7016), matt white (RAL 9016) or matt black (RAL 9005). You can also choose the roofing material yourself. For this, you can choose between clear glass or opal glass, and three different types of polycarbonate. This means the carport can be fully customised to match your home, budget, and requirements.

It is also possible to install glass sliding doors at the front or sides. This allows you to close the carport on all sides, and maintain the temperature under the carport for longer. Want to complete your carport? Then you could also add lighting or sun shading.

Types of roofing

At Tuinmaximaal, you can choose from different roofing types, which differ in terms of light and energy permeability, noise reduction, and visibility of dirt and condensation. More information can be found in table below. Want to effectively counteract heat radiation? Then we recommend adding sun shading to your carport as well. Gumax® sun shading reflects 89% of direct heat radiation on all roof panels.

Note: that the percentages mentioned in the table are indicative.

How long should a carport be?

It depends, of course, on which vehicles you want to store under your carport. The average passenger car is about 4 metres long and 2 metres wide. For these cars, Tuinmaximaal recommends a carport of at least 6.06 metres long and 3.5 metres wide. Tuinmaximaal recommends measuring your vehicle yourself and then determining how wide and long you would like the carport to be. Want to park two cars under the carport? Then we recommend a minimum width of 10.06 metres. Also consider the future; having to purchase a bigger carport for a bigger car is obviously not the most economical option. Want to park a small (camper) van? Then we recommend a length of at least 7.06 metres. Also pay attention to the height here. Tuinmaximaal's carports have a maximum height of 2.35 metres. Of course, a carport is also great for other vehicles, such as bicycles, motorbikes, mopeds or scooters.

What does it cost to install a carport?

At Tuinmaximaal, we offer ready-made, user-friendly packages that you can easily assemble yourself. This eliminates the need to call in installers. When having a carport installed, the costs can add up quite a bit. So doing this yourself will save you a lot of money. You will see that our user-friendly manual makes it easy to assemble a carport yourself. Still not sure? Then take a look at our assembly manuals and assembly videos

How much does an enclosed carport cost?

When choosing your carport, you can choose to close it with glass sliding doors. This allows you to completely close off the front, or one or more sides. This helps maintain the temperature under the carport. A carport that is 3.06 metres wide and 2.5 metres deep with glass sliding doors at the front starts from £1.895. You can easily calculate the price of your perfect carport by configuring it yourself on our website.

Can I close the front and/or side(s) of the carport?

Want to protect your car or another vehicle from all weather conditions? Then close off the front and/or sides of the carport with glass sliding doors or Gumax® Shading Panels. Thanks to the Gumax® glass sliding doors, the wall under the carport is completely enclosed, while maintaining a view of your car. Gumax® Shading Panels are panels with water-repellent slats thanks to the Rhombus design. Choose from 3 frame colours and 7 slat colours and configure your Gumax® Shading Panel according to your own wishes. Combine glass sliding doors and Gumax® Shading Panels in the convenient rail system as desired. Do you want to close only the front or one or both sides of the carport? You choose.

How far should a carport be from the property line?

To build a carport, you need to comply with a number of rules. For instance, the space should not exceed 30 square metres. In principle, you may place a carport on the property line. However, that usually means it is visible from the street. This is subject to different rules for each municipality. If you want to place your carport on your front yard, a permit is often required. If you live in a corner house, this also applies to the side yard. Tuinmaximaal therefore always recommends consulting about the rules with your municipality, so that you do not face surprises later.

How high can a carport be?

When you are going to mount your carport to your house, the rules of structures within a distance of 4 metres from the main building apply. Within this distance, construction must not exceed 30 centimetres above the height of the floor of the first upper storey. If your house has only one storey, such as a bungalow, the carport should not extend above your bungalow. If you are going to mount your carport to an outbuilding, for example, different rules apply. If your carport is more than 4 metres away from your main building, a maximum height of 3 metres applies. The maximum height of Gumax carports is 2.35 metres.
